To All,
I've noticed quite a few coaches have what appear to be re-fabricated wheel wells. It really adds to the looks of the rear gear, kinda like the background in a good picture. Since I'm pretty much starting from the inside out with my 23' Glacier, now's the time to at least consider it. I'm assuming: 1) both the closet/elect. and bath modules have to be moved out of the way
2) anything connected to the wheel wells have to be re-positioned if not exactly then at least accessibly
3) I have to convince my wife that this is the logical thing to do

The module on the electrical side is out already, but I don't have the guts yet to take out the well.
Can anybody tell me what I'm getting into as far as bath module removal or particular elect/mech challenges or tackling the project in general? I've read from prior posts that bath removal and restoral is not recommended, but someone must have done this to get such the job done. Doing one side only don't cut it. Gene, got a link?

Oh yeah, #3 assumption may be a futile effort.

Do you have a picture to refer to?
Which coach did you see this mod on?

Dave,
Not necessarily a modification. Just an observance that a lot of these
coaches have clean interior wells that I thought could only be achieved by
removal inside and/or lining the well itself from the outside. I would
prefer not to revisit tearout again if thats the only way to get the project
done now. Naturally, I don't want to put in new disc brakes and a Q-bag
system (don't I wish) with my wheel wells looking like a cat scratchpost .

John,
The early (73 and 74) coaches wheel wells are often cracked or damaged because the wheel can come in contact when fully lowered and certainly if the coach is towed by a front lift tow-truck. The later coaches had nice wheel wells that even had relief molded over the wheel area to give more clearance.

Tear out is a big project -- you might consider a good pressure washing, scraping, degreasing, patching and then paint with truck bed liner.

I think Frank Jenkins makes those. I know he makes the front ones. Ken H. will know.

AFAIK, Frank does not make rear wheel wells. The front ones sure look nice
though. But, I couldn't talk him into delivering them split front-to-rear
for even easier R&R:

FYI:

My stretched '73 came with wheel wells that were cracked, patched and warped - as well as glued down. I was lucky enough to purchase a choice pair that were from a coach project that someone parted out without reassembling it - it was an aborted stretch project as I recall. They 'new' style are like night and day in quality - like the originals were prototypes.

Anyway, the new ones were crated up professionally and shipped across the country for me and the whole thing cost $600 before reinstallation - which I recommend be done with removable foam weather stripping rather than adhesive (I've heard they are three times harder to repair after suffering a catastrophic blowout if they are repaired in place).

I think the question you might consider asking is whether your desire to have a cleaner-looking wheel well is worth upwards of that much? If you have a shop capable of making new ones from FRP, etc. I still think it would be costly, and with all the other functional things on these coaches that require repair frequently, it shouldn't be that high of a priority - unless you are understating the condition of yours.

Thanks to all who replied. I'm rethinking this project, but seems to be
something that will never get done if not now. Is a sprayon coating an
alternative, kinda like a bedliner, only not?

Assuming you can get the wheelwells clean (pressure washer? sandblasting?), I would think that a spray-on bedliner would probably not be a bad choice for giving a nice, clean look. Is there any reason not to use it?
