We all need that refresher once in a while Gene.

Chuck Botts will be giving his tire research presentation at GMCWS Las
Vegas rally in a couple weeks. For those of you that can't make the
whole rally, you might want to drop by on this day (Thursday, the
21st) for his presentation, and maybe even to test drive Rick
Flannigan's coach equipped with the Brake Reaction Arm system. No
charge for visitors and we're glad to have you.

I got mine on a 2 year plan so every 6 years, if I am that brave, I have them all replaced and I am looking hard at the ones for the next swap out. Last year I did 4 because I had to replace the front ones twice and that ticked me off. I also run the tire air pressure sensors. While at Du Quoin, both front ones went off. Sure enough, both had dropped a few pounds and I had just checked them myself not long before. I blamed the cool weather for changing the pressure. Aired them back up and all is good. After seeing George's coach with the side torn out of it I decided to do all I can to prevent that from happening to me. I believe that most blow outs are from low tire air pressure. "I just blew a one year old tire", "was it low on air?" The owner does not know but "it looked like it was full". How many times have I heard that statement??? A lot. So, I feel a little prevention is worth a lot in this area. Some guys make it 10 years on tires but I often wonder if they are out and about like we are. Also, my coach sits outside all of the time.
Thanks for the reminder Gene.

mine are shot, getting new ones soon, gonna try these tires http://www.onlinetires.com/products/vehicle/tires/maxxis/225%252F75-16+maxxis+ma-761+n%252Fa.html

they are about 30 miles from me so I can pick up the tires, this is the best deal on a quality LRE tire I can find around here. BFG, Goodyear and Michelin are way more expensive for a same tire...

Good morning all
Before I left for my Alaskan trip I put 6 brand new Kuhmo tires on my baby.
Yesterday just put 6 new Michelin tires to replace 4 bald Kuhmo and two not
too bad. Kuhmo may be good for short hauls but my discount tire guys just
said when I came back I WARNED YOU THEY WHERE NO GOOD and he was not
kidding. Granted the roads where pretty bad but I just could not believe
the condition of those tires when I got back

Marcel,

Which Kuhmo tires did the trip to Alaska tear up? The reason I ask is I have
roughly 12,000 miles on the AT's on Double Trouble and they're hardly worn.

Rob

Good morning from El Paso
The tires used where the Kuhmo units recommended for the coach. They where
new tires manufactured in 2010. They seemed to ride fine but whether is was
the rubber or the rough roads, I came back with two bald, two badly worn and
the very back tires not too bad.
I was carefull with the air pressure and did not drive over 60 mph. The
discount tire guys refunded all my money on these guys and I install new
Michellin tires. A bit pricey but I feel worth the money.

Perhaps you should write a review on these tires at either the Kumho web
site or Tire Rack's web site.

I bought Kumho tires for my ASC McLaren and more recently for my Caddy
CTS. They were highly rated by reviewers but the ones for the CTS (Ecsta
LX Platinum Z speed rated) had, according to independent labs, the
highest wear rating of every tire in its class. UTQG of 600 A/A.

In both cases I found the tires to be pretty good but I have not driven
in a harsh environment such as AK as you have. That could make the
difference.

Marcel,

Thanks for the info but Kumho makes three types of tread patterns suitable
for our coaches in the Road Venture series of 225/75-16R tires so we need
more information.

Were your tires:

1) Road Venture APT KL51

http://tinyurl.com/ntohr7

http://www.kumhousa.com/Tire.aspx?id=951192bc-d085-41f6-8d52-9757698231b4&ca
t=25

2) Road Venture SAT KL61

http://tinyurl.com/2eovuhj

http://www.kumhousa.com/Tire.aspx?id=c205bde8-f7ff-4e90-82f1-4b22403cf2eb&ca
t=25

3) Road Venture AT KL78

http://www.kumhousa.com/Tire.aspx?id=8ce40218-bc5c-47d0-ac9c-3207a8c1c3a3&ca
t=25

I note you state "I was careful with the air pressure." What pressure did
you run in the front tires? What pressure did you run in the rear tires?

What position were the "bald tires?"

What position were the "badly worn tires?"

Please advise.

Thanks,

I too have Kuhmo KL78's with just about 10,000 miles on them. I was thinking last week about doing my first tire rotation on them. The front drive tires are just starting to show a little wear on them. The others are like new.

I am also wondering what model Kuhmo's you had the problem with.
