Hi everyone, I've been lurking here a while but this is my first post. This is not my first vehicle project, but this is my first camper or motorhome. There is a lot of great information here!

A couple of months ago I bought a '76 Birchaven which had a mild restoration already in progress. The unit was completed by Coachmen Industries, and is a side bath model. The PO had removed the dinette to re-carpet the floor and re-do the paneling. I've painted the wall and had the furniture re-upholstered. The new paneling looks good, but there are not mounting holes for reference for the dinette benches or the table. Can anyone tell me what type of hardware is used to bolt the benches to the wall and exactly where? Also, the original table is in good shape, but I can't figure out how it mounts to the wall, all I have is an aluminum channel on the end of the table.

Thanks in advance, I'm sure I'll have dozens of noob questions to ask in the coming months.

Clint,
Welcome to the forum!
A lot of our regulars are either en route to the rally in DuQuoin or preparing for the trip so it may take a day of two to get your replies.
I did locate a photo on the photo site which shows a BIrchaven dinette -- you might visit their and do a search
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=26602&title=1976-birchaven-23-27&cat=9

Coachmen were know for nice materials but poor construction practices -- so the install location of the dinette fasteners was probalby highly variable.

Good luck and again welcome to the GMCnet.

Clint, there is a mirror image matching aluminum extrusion that mounts onto
the wall where the dinette table intersects it. It is held onto the wall
with tapping screws into the aluminum rib structure beneath the window. If
you have a GMC manual, there are dimensional illustrations that show where
they are in most models. Your Birchaven could be somewhat different because
it left the Pontiac plant as a semi finished transmode type vehicle and the
interior detail was completed by Jimmy, a division of Coachman Industries.
That bracket should be the same one as used in the Royales that also used
the folding dinette table.

Check here for almost any thing you want to know about these great old coachs :http://www.bdub.net/GMCLinks.html In particular look at Eugene Fishers site. (lower left on bdubs link page.)
Welcome to the crazy world of GMC motorhomes! In addition if you add your location and coach info along with your signature there is probably a fellow GMC'r in your neighborhood.

Thanks for the help! I can see that I need floor clamps as I expected. I can probably probe for the holes and once I locate the benches relative to the floor the wall mounting spots will be located for me. Now I know what I am looking for in my spares boxes for the table mount, or else what to source elswhere or fab.

If you need any pictures of specific details, let me know. I have a 1978 rear bath Birch. While there where changes over the years (bathroom door and couch where two), I do not think the dinette changed. BUT... they did cover some of the dinette hardware with carpet.

I uploaded 3 photos that may help.

Unfortunately I don’t remember where I measured from. If you need I will, later in the day, take more measurements from glass frame. You are welcome to contact me off net if you want.
