Hey all,
We have pulled the LP tank out of our PYS (Pineapple Yellow Sequoia) in order to rebuild the cabinet area and address a floor soft spot in the extreme rear passenger corner - I've discovered that apparently several small leaks converge there - to the detriment of the plywood. At any rate, I cannot get the LP tank brass fittings free that connects the line to the shut off valve... Is there some unknown issue here? This should be about as straight forward as anything I can think of... but it has me stumped. Any suggestions? (FYI.. I've already tried swearing at it... didn't help).
Thanks,
Lyle

Did you try turning the nut the other way? POL fittings are reverse thread.

And the triva question of the day is "who knows why the POL fitting is left hand threads ?" P. S. not for the same reason "knock off" nuts are on some old time road cars.

That's only the OLD fittings. New fittings
have both inside (LH threads) and outside
(RH threads) so your new retrofitted valves
can be used on both old and new appliances.

I always assumed it had something to do with making gas fittings NON-INTERCHANGEABLE with other types of fittings. It could be just to make things harder on most of us. Twisted Evil

Lyle,

Have you tried to "tighten" the connection? LH fittings (like the ones on older LP valves) work backwards to "normal" fittings.

Bob,
I wondered if that was the issue. However, before I muscled the fitting into an even worse situation/condition I thought I would ask the group. What a great resource!!

The POL is the aconym for Prest-O-Lite who created the "POL" fitting style. The "new" ACME, QCC(Quick Closing Coupler) has been required on U.S.A. sold DOT tanks since year 2000. The external thread on the ACME are right hand.

So why are POL left hand. If you have oxy-acetylene welding equipment, your acetylene tank is a clue to my Trivia question.

The accidental install of a fuel source regulator and hoses on the oxygen tank would very likely cause rapid combustion of residual fuel (BOOM!!!) when high pressure oxygen is introduced into the regulator. Junk yards quite often use oxygen and propane as cutting torch fuel. Thus fuel sources had left hand threads.
