I find it interesting that people report more frequent odor when the tank is nearly empty . This would suggest to me that the leak would be somewhere, like a valve, that is threaded. Under higher pressure the threads might be forced together, but not so much under low pressure. I don't know if it makes any sense but if the leak were a hole in a tube or pipe I can't think of a way that low pressure would cause a greater leak than high pressure.
This doesn't explain Dan's leak of a full tank in 2 weeks, though.
<sigh> Maybe someday I'll actually have a useful answer for y'all...
