Bob, don't know that you knew this, but, last Valentine's day, my wife
Judy's oldest daughter succumbed to metastatic breast cancer. Also, a few
years ago, my first wife Mary suffered what would become a fatal heart
attack following open heart surgery to repair a botched previous surgery to
replace a mitral valve. SO, Valentine's day at the Hupy household is a
somber time. Combine that with grey skies and miserable oregon weather, and
you get the picture.
Then comes your Elevator story. What an uplifting piece of news this
is. Thank you for jerking my ass around and setting my priorities straight.
Something both Judy and I needed today. Typical Marine response to
adversity. Improvise, adapt, overcome and overwhelm. Bob jobs for sure.
Judy's dad is a Marine. 100 years old on Christmas Eve. Served
throughout the South Pacific during WW 2. Decorated with purple hearts and
bronze star. He was recalled from ready reserves when Korea came along.
Went to the Chosin Resevoir with a Batallion of Marines during a rugged
Korean winter. Fought their way out of that mess in freezing cold and human
wave assaults from the Chinese and North Korean troops. Less than a company
of marines came out. I know the Marines, and I am proud to have one for a
father in law.
