Thanks Emory, I had the whole thing out today, both sides. It is a 3 wire socket, the black wire goes down and connects to the shell. I found the replacement using the 1985 stamping on the lens, again this was uplifted in the early 90s by Explorer and the sockets are spliced onto the original wire harness.
