Mike,
I ran int this issue with my Cad engine few times.
First the crank must have the thrust bearing surface almost perfect.
Majority of crank grinders do not put much enpasis on this as majority are
for cars and pick up.
There are New style thrust bearings that work much better, also one needs
to know how to pre load it so it is lining up.
Also starting up engine with trans modulator disconnected will showe the
torque convertor into the crank.
Avoid running engine in revese or lower gear selector as the line pressure
will go up and shove converer forward.
Newly machined surfaes are problem,
Do not lug the engine, better to rev it higher when driving.
