Don't bug him it is not the New Year here yet.
Water pump lube is available at my local auto parts store and is cheap. It is especially helpful on vehicles that sit for long periods of time. After taking out water pump seals on several vehicles that sat for more the 6 months, I started using it. I have not had to replace a water pump on anything I own since then. It is not the cost of the water pumps (most are life time warranty). It is doing the work to replace it that I hate.

If you are using ethelyne glycol anti-freeze mixed with distilled water in
a 50/50 mixture in a clean cooling system, and you have changed and
flushed the system in the last 3 years, I personally would not be
concerned about a failed additive package. But, there are test kits to
confirm the potency if you are concerned. If it fails that test, drain,
flush, and renew your system. Go back in the house and worry if your wife
is planning to kill you for your life insurance policy, or some other
unlikely problem.
