I understand that you gearheads lean towards complicated gadgetry . . . but
you might want to
consider a low-tech solution? )))

Irish Spring bar soap. Cut out the "top" (long dimension) and place
throughout the vehicle.

Keeps the mice away; I can't vouch for larger critters. And, a somewhat
pleasant smell.
