Glacier is well worth the trip. I have been up there and back several times both in the motorhome and in my Blazer. They have a length restriction of something in the low 20 foot range. There is only one real tight turn on the west side. I ignored it and went anyway. I expect that you might be in trouble with the park cops if you GMC broke down. If you choose to ignore the restriction drive it from east to west.
I suggest that you ride the free shuttle. I have never been on it, but there were lots of them running. If you are going to camp in the park, get there in the morning as they are usually full before noon. If you have or can get a handicap placard, put it in the window and ask for handicap camping. These spaces were never full and are held open until 6 PM. After 6PM they open the unused handicap spots to the general public for one days only. A handicap card or plate will let you stay the normal length of time for all of the other spots.
If all else fails there is a National Forest campground (no hook ups) that is never full. It is located on the south side of US 2 on the south side outside of the park. I believe it is called Summit Campground. I have stayed there several times while attending the Glacier Hamfest just down the road at the KOA.
Enjoy your trip.
