maybe to late to weigh in, but I had the same problem with the "paddle" system except that mine actually broke. That was an interesting day.

I ended up calling Jeff Sirum who provided a "version 2" replacement with stronger everything. In the course of repairing it, I discovered that the pivot point on the system had NEVER been greased.
