When choosing a winch for an off-road vehicle, it is common to recommend 1.5 times the vehicle weight for winch pulling capacity.

That recommendation is assuming worst case scenario.

For a GMC weighing 12000lbs, and being stuck on a slick surface, you should be ok with 4000lb pull capacity, provided the coach has not sunk into the surface more than an inch or so.

Due to the GMC frame design, do not pull at an angle from the rear. You WILL damage the frame. It is best to ONLY pull straight forward or rearward, and only with moderate force. It doesn't take much to bend the frame.
