OK. Is there anything commercially available that is comparable to
either of those? it's very pricey buying directly from Caterpillar or
John Deere.

Is Valvoline Syn comparable or ????

Thanks

Ray,

While I can't promise it is comparable, I can tell you that there is a bearing, known weakness in my mower deck that can kill a bearing (they made a mistake and it is run at overload continuously) in about 50hrs (one season on my lawns). After the third time I replaced it, I opened up the next one and packed it with Valvoline SynPower. That was 10 years ago.

I can buy Desert Gold for not much more. I never tried to find the John Deere grease.

Matt
