Which is fine, except that you have to have a way to communicate that to
toll operators (and not just in toll booths). We can't expect them to just
know that a few thousand vehicles on the west coast are different that all
the other millions of vehicles they deal with.

The documentation for that determination would be a good attachment to a
letter appealing the toll to the toll operator.

The real answer is to stop basing tolls on the number of axles as a
surrogate for weight, and base it on the actual GVWR. That used to be
marked visibly on vehicles larger than passenger cars in many states. That
is something RV groups can take on if they want to.

Automated systems can weigh vehicles these days, too. A weight sensor in
the pavement isn't any more expensive than a profiler.

One reason GMCers on the east coast avoid toll roads is that there are so
many of them and it adds up. But anyone who lives in north Dallas will
confirm that some western states are catching up.
