Why the idle at 350? At that speed I would think oil slinging off the crank would only be thrown about an inch above the rod big end and never get up to the walls or to cool the underside of pistons.

John,

I have seldom decided where I wanted an engine to idle. I always let them tell me. This engine does not like 600~650 and the 1100 to set the timing even less so.

While you concern about lubrication and cooling is understandable. Think about the fact there there is no load on the engine and no BMEP contributing heat to the system. There should still be adequate lube on the cross-head and such low cylinder temperatures, and just the charge air can cool the crowns. A thermocouple in the exhaust stream will read a high temperature because there is not much boundary layer to make it shed the heat even with the engine running so expansively.

Also consider that 360 rpm (close enough) is still 6 revolutions a second and with the high lube oil pressure it is usually showing, I am not worried. If I am wrong, I will know it before the end of October.

Matt
