Nice hack, Dutch.

Those of us who do not use the mail list function tend to forget the issue Matt mentions.
Any photo solution needs to address it.

What if just the mail list images were converted to links? Then a user could decide if an image was
important enough to warrant bandwidth usage. Solving a mechanical problem, for example.

Matt seems to feel the GMCPhotos process is simple. I've used it and I don't.
Many photos are useless without a caption, and lots of them don't have captions.
If they were associated with a post, then the context would be obvious.

My feeling is that the GMCNet site should store photos, display them for browser users,
and convert to links for mail list users. The existing GMCPhotos site should be moved to the GMCNet site,
the existing posts scraped for GMCPhotos links and GMCNet site links substituted.

Ideally, the GMCNet site is migrated to GMCMI where members' dues can support its use and development.
The migrated photo archive can be accessed via purchased photo handling software to recreate
the GMCPhotos environment as well.

The above is a huge project, I know, and probably misses some important considerations.
A discussion on a higher level is probably the place to start... Something like -

"What are the desired features of an internet based inter-owner communication environment?"

I'll throw out my list...
- Hosted and supported by an organization with the resources to maintain and develop it.
- Forum based, with sub-forums.
- Curated/Moderated by subject matter experts.
- Robust, bandwidth conservative, mail list functionality.
- Capacity for photo handling.
- Acquisition of GMCNet
- Acquisition and replication of GMCPhotos site.
- No targeted advertising, no harvesting of user data.
