A good link to the craziness is oregonsolarfest.com. Many other links
there, also. Maybe the Cascaders should do a Central Oregon Rally? What do
you guys think?

Ok, here's a thought... OR state parks has just announced that some of the first-come-first-served parks will be added to the reservation for the eclipse "at a later date". I read that to mean after the 17th, but it's not clear. OR Parks also allows group reservations at all parks, even the first-come ones, up to 9 months in advance. We could try to get a group reservation at one of these parks by calling at 8am on August 17th, which is hopefully ahead of any new reservation systems they add, but just within the 9 month window. The two most likely parks in the path with electricity, water, and dump stations are:

Clyde Holiday (near John Day):
http://oregonstateparks.org/index.cfm?do=parkPage.dsp_parkPage&parkId=8

Unity Lake (56 miles east of Clyde Holiday):
http://oregonstateparks.org/index.cfm?do=parkPage.dsp_parkPage&parkId=7

Average August weather at John Day: High 88, low 48, precipitation 0.63"

We could try to do a combined 49ers/Cascaders rally if we could get a decent coach count asap (must be at least 20), and if both clubs are willing to front the fees.
I believe for group reservations, you have to pay the $8/site reservation fee immediately, followed soon by the full amount and names for each site.
They're typically $8/site reservation fee, plus around $30/night camping (and if needed, an $8/site cancellation fee). This would be about $158/coach for 5 nights camping, or a little more if we added group BBQs, etc. It would be difficult to collect fees from GMCers up front, and we don't even know if we can get a reservation.

Alternatively we could all try to get individual sites at a campground as soon as the reservations open.

Thoughts?
