The Type 1 had a split window from the first models produce pre WWII until 1953.

Click on the brochure for 1952 and you'll see it is a split window. Then click on the brochure for the 1953 and you'll see it is an
oval window.

The split window models command high prices but can't come close to the 23 window Kombi vans.
