I also think people have grinded the brake caliper itself to clear.
Even the correct steel wheel can scrub when brand new brake pads are installed in OEM calipers. You can grind the OEM calipers enough to work. 80mm calipers are a different story. You need hub extenders or alloy wheels to run 80mm calipers.
