I installed a P4070 once without the bypass check valve and it did not go well. It would run out of gas in the carb when I accelerated heavily and the electric pump was turned off. I added a check valve bypass and took care of the problem.
Jim K. at Applied GMC has everything that you need in one kit. He has, or at least had, one of them ready to go on his table at the GMCMI rally yesterday.
