Thanks Gary, I do have a pair of washers under the top mounting studs which does indeed help the angle. The problem with the basic design lies in the factory designed angle I think. Shorting the rod exaggerates the problem though. When the brake pedal is engaged and the rod pushed it reverses the angularity problem. The angle looks worse than it is as the ball end of the rod is recessed into the HB somewhat. The only way I see to correct it completely would be to design a new belcrank(sp?) and push the HB out beyond the hood. It's a little surprising GMC never incorporated the HB in the original design. It could have been made to work with a right angle bracket possibly. Anyway, I think it should work as is.
As for the bracket, I just modified what I had on hand. The Chevy parts truck gave up some more pieces for the project. It was only a matter of slicing and dicing a little to make it work. The truck also gave up it's PS cooler which fit pretty well. Looking for parts in the men's mall is an all day affair and finding anything that old around here would be tough. I'm sure they are out there if someone else is looking to do something similar and they could source one with a little work. It's always better to use something already built than to have to custom fabricate the piece. You never know when you'll have to replace a part out in 'who knows where' land.
Thank you for the suggestion though.
Hal
