Joe - I like #2 and have voted accordingly. Have you picked a paint shop? I really hate that Topeka has quit painting GMC's. Please report back any success in finding a reasonably priced and decent quality painter. Thanks and good luck

Stick,

Those that have met me know I have one slice of bacon short of a sandwich, so I have sort of a reputation to uphold.

There is no shop that meets my standards with regards to surface finish...in my price range (sub 5 figures for a car). I have always been a pain in the ass about paint quality, and it is a curse. Paint is one of those things that once its applied is not easy to get someone to do over, and there is a material cost. I have had at least a dozen cars painted professionally and have never gotten the attention to detail no matter the price. I'd rather do it myself.

Have you ever heard of the $50 paint Job? Been discussed at length on the Moparts Forum and has spawned quite a few dedicated sites. Basically, you lay down thin coats with a no-nap high density roller and the paint self-levels. It takes a few coats but, unlike spraying, you can do a panel at a time. The key is the same with all paint jobs - prepping the surface.

I will probably hire out the bulk of the prep work. Now, what gives me pause is the sheer size of the vehicle and the labor intensity of the process. Still pondering the logistics. May just need to find a barn and a wagner power sprayer...it would still look better than it does now. I think the last coat was latex. Laughing
