I agree... Cost benefit analysis says that 6k if that is not worth The
Awesome that is surely to follow as I fix them up and do things with them..

I have to at least consider it.

The land isn't good for anything but a trailer or country home. Timber
priced are so low that it's not worth cutting my scraggly volunteer pine.

If they were nice I could rent them out for the weekend. I could turn the
Bean into a food truck concession stand and work the flea markets, but that
takes investment and the profits are low.

What I need are just a few good personal injury cases, or a LOT of
uncontested divorces that I can do on my two off days per month. Thing is,
I've never worked a personal injury case. The field of law that I'm an
expert in (Veterans Compensation) is the one I can't practice. I can't
represent a client against the Govt even on my off time. That's jailable.
I'm working all the overtime they'll let me.

I'm one of the lucky ones. I got a great federal job with good benefits and
a career track in October 2008 when the economy tanked. A portion of my
loans will be forgiven in seven years or so (faster if the new bill doesn't
die in committee and gets passed by our do nothing Congress). There's
lawyers waiting tables and delivering pizzas, it is murder out there.

With luck, the Boomers above me will retire in a few years and I can move
up into the higher GS levels. I'm bucking for a transfer to DC, but so far
no luck. I had a typo on my last resume (mortifying). Making a few thousand
a year more would be a big help.

(I'm so stressed over this I typed all that on my iPhone at 3AM).
