Took a short trip this weekend. 200+ miles along the Oregon Coast.
The first 60 were from Eugene to Florence. The newly installed fan
clutch just about ruined that 60 miles trip.

My engine tends to run about 190-195 when cruising. Outside temp
doesn't seem to matter much. 70° to 90° - the engine runs about 190°

The new fan clutch would come on at 190° and push the temp back down to
180° before cycling off. 7-8 minutes later the engine would be at 190°
again and the fan would be howling away. And not just the fan, either.

I replaced the Alternator and PS pump belts because I thought they were
worn out. Nope. I think this fan clutch simply hooks up so solid that
even new belts (and yes, they were nice and tight) couldn't keep it from
squealing. It wasn't as bad as with the old belts but still very annoying.

So we're going to see what Autozone says when I take this fan clutch
back. I'll settle for store credit! I had the old fan clutch with me
and installed it in Florence. I think it's actually working just fine.
Saw 200° during the trip and heard the fan clutch come on about then.
It wasn't nearly as loud as the Autozone-driven fan was, however.

So anyway... more of the same when it comes to fan clutches...
