In a recent thread one of our posters talked about a surging or fuel starvation issue they had not been able to solve. I remembered today an issue we once had that resulted in similar symptoms. On the HEI distributor there are two plastic modules, that plug into the under side of the distributor cap. One holds three connectors and the other two. One on the three connector module is battery positive. Those connectors are the female end and are held in place by a small tang. If that tang breaks off or becomes damaged, the connector can slide down inside the module as it is pressed into place resulting in a poor or intermittent connection. The symptoms will be very much like what that poster described - surging or backfire or a miss or what feels like fuel starvation. So, remove the distributor cap, turn it over and carefully examine all five of those connectors to make sure they are fully seated into the male portions that are fixed in the cap. May solve a lot of differ
ent feeling problems.
