Greetings, GMCnetters! I'm Sean, and as of two days ago my wife and I
are the proud owners of a 1973 Painted Desert :)
We picked it up yesterday in El Paso, TX and and survived our maiden
voyage back to our home in southwestern NM with only one incident -
engine lost power and died on the uphill climb out of the city. I was
only about 10 miles from the dealer, so I called him for ideas, and he
let me know that sometimes the GMC's won't downshift automatically, so
I need to drop speed and downshift manually when I hit a long climb.
Armed with that bit of info, we were able to get rolling again and
made it home safely.
This is our first motorhome, and we're excited about the prospect of
fixing it up and doing a bit of travelling! I'm glad to see that
there's an active mailing list - I'm certain we're going to have some
questions along the way.
Anyway - just wanted to say hello :)
