I have a SP trans and uses a "box" that goes to high slip when the
brakes are applied, and when engine vacuum drops below 4". A built in
timer holds for 20 seconds in both cases. I use a single pole, double
throw center off switch to control, labeled Auto, off and on. Auto
employs the "box", off is tight lockup and on is loose lockup.

That "box" is made by Bruce Roe. He can be reached at bcroe@juno.com

It come with a switch that has a center off position. When pushed one way it is in automatic mode. When pushed the other way it is always on.

The auto position will, as Chuck says, turn off the switch pitch after about 20 seconds to prevent overheating. I watch my transmission temperature gauge and when I am on a long grade I will sometimes put it into the on position so that the switch pitch stays engaged. When I see the temperature creep up I will then put it back into the auto position.

Back when we used to drag race with SP Trannies, we used to have the
switch connected to brake lights, some used the defunct horn button.
Just like dropping the clutch when the light turned green. A simple
diode installation would support an override if you wanted extra power
for passing or hills.

I have finally decided to bite the bullet and sell my 1977 GMC . I thought I would offer it here first before I put it on the “C” list or the “E” list. I just don’t use it enough to justify all the expense with insurance and such. I cannot get my wife into it anymore since we got our other camping set-up. It sits around to much now and after seeing all the wannabees on the site getting what they are looking for I know somebody out there would surely get a bunch of enjoyment from this motor home. It is by no means finished and does need some cosmetic and interior help. I have added a poster on the GMC Motorhome Picture site with some info described. I will answer as many questions as I can and would appreciate contact via the PM service. Thanks in advance. Jim

Michael,

You don't realize it, but you are an envied man by many. To be so lucky.
If you enjoy it, keep on keeping on until it quits being fun.

A wise man once told me, " Son, find something you thoroughly enjoy doing, and learn to do it well, and someone will pay you to do it. Then every morning you can go out and have fun and not have to call it work."

Oh, to be in your shoes and get to play with all those toys all day.

Hell, if you feel guilty, go play golf once a month.

What a bargain! At $7600 or best offer, this looks like it is ready to
roll and a good deal for a Wannabee or a 2nd coach
for someone.

Item # 230522272139

If anyone communicates with the seller, try to get a name and address. He
has been a tad reluctant to share tha info
with me but he probably would with a potential buyer.

Dave,
This may well be a great deal for someone -- but anyone considering an offer should do their due diligence. It appears to have been sold once before for $7200 but is relisted. In the Q&A the seller sasy it came from a friend -- a lot of non-dealres in Tennessee like to resell a vehicle before they register it in their name -- avoiding sales tax etc. It can be a hassle getting a clear title.

Just enough reason to be cautious.

Well,,,,a week and a half ago I pulled it out of the garage and noticed it was ideling poorly. Almost like a miss. Pulled each wire at the dist. No change except got bit twice. Fiddled with the air screws. No help. Went and got the Vac gage. Odd reading with the needle jumping???? Went to look for my notes and looked it up on the net. Stuck valve,,,what the??? Pulled the plugs which is tough on the right side when its hot(tall valve covers to clear the rockers). 170 on #8.(left rear on caddys)120 on # 6,,Did it again,,,,90,,,thats really bad. BUT valve an't stuck, right. Put the plugs back in and put it back in the garage.(AC and Heat if needed) Pulled the cover and the intake valve rockers pin that holds the roller had moved out about 1/2 way. So the roller cocked at an angle(unsuported on one side). No damage to the valve or retainer. I had purchased full rollers(pivot and tip) from Potters in TN because my originals were shot with 165k or 265k miles. He made the stands but the rockers are BB chevys from Probe(they make pistons but mine are Ross) New rocker should be here today and then the testing continues but of course its going to rain. Maybe i should have bought Probe pistons instead of Ross. Incradable story about shipping though. Tld the "Boss" sunday nite that if she mailed it monday morning instead of afternoon after work we could gat a jump on it by a day. Left the address of Potters and said "wait untill I call, it will be after 7 because its a eastern time zone". Potter called at 7:15 and said to wait it needs to go to Probe(CA). He called at 10:15 and gave me the address. Called the boss and sha said she SENT IT!!!!! Oh no,,Thats an extra week. So I called the post office and a guy answered. Told my tale of woe. Put me on hold for 10 min. Came back and said he found it and then RE-ADDRESED IT. I WAS STUNNED. Next time any of you guys ship gold bullion let me know. I got the US post office on speed-dial!!!!! Wish me luck. ALSO,,,I listed parts I,m bringing to Duquion, but forgot I have 2 complete hub/knuckle/dics/caliper assemblys.,,,,PL

Seems like it never fails, you put a hose clamp on, position it so it's not
interfering with anything and has the easiest accessibility, Then the very next
thing you have to work on that exact hose clamp will be in perfect position to
cut and scratch the living heck out of your wrist or arm, etc. How do we manage
to do some things so perfectly WRONG ???

Ray,

My buddy was driving his 3 year new SOB back from Tahoe when a hose clamp finally wore a hole in his radiator hose. This left him stranded on the side of the freeway. He wanted the "correct" hose, and that took 4 days to arrive! A $60 hose turned in to a $500 repair.

Hi Larry

That's exactly what's happened to mine, by 15 mph I'm in high gear.

What's really made it noticable is that I just finished installing the new
Springfield Ignition system that I purchased from Dick Patterson. With the
coach shifting so quick it's hard to tell if the timing curve change is doing
any good or not, with the early shifting it seemed to perform WORSE with the new
ignition system.

Ray,
I had exactly the same problem with mine about 2 yrs ago. Suddenly one day
without prior symptoms or warning it would shift out of 1st at 5mph and into
high by 15mph. After f#%king around with the vac modulator for a week or so,
and dropping the pan twice to check the SP and kick down solonoid, it occured to
me that this was a speed problem not a vacuum problem. I swapped out the
governor, and the problem went away. If all else fails try the governor. JWID

I bet that fellow lives on Archer lane.

Oh, almost forgot. Should you be coming from Carbondale, keep your
eye to the right. About 4-5 miles you will see a RR bridge that was
built in 1902, big numbers. The drive just north of that bridge, on
same side of road, leads to a very famous guy that was my mentor while
getting our coach ready to travel. You will know who as the road is
named after him. He was one of the fore fathers of this net. I am
hoping he can make an appearance at the convention.

Michael,
Reading two of the replies you have received I can
tell they haven't seen your place. More work than
any one man should be doing. I commend you.
BUT! I wouldn't want to be in you shoes. I wish you
the best and hope to see you in Du Quoin.
Charles
