Hey Guys/Gals,

Hello fellow Gmcer here with a Birchaven 76 transmode i recently became the proud owner of.its in really nice condition.but i bought it an estate sale.so i couldent deal with the former owner. He had for some reason disasembled the rear bed and seats.they wernt able to locate them at the time of the sale.

Does anyone have a set from a remoldel there going to sell or dispose of.i allmost have a compleat rv or at least a usuable one lol.i built a temp bed and thru a mattress in the back.but id like to keep my rv as original possible.

I am not sure but it must of had the fold out seats such as toyhaulers have.it also has the house water tank and it appears he was in the stage of just replacing it with a new one.everything seems to work great.it sat for 8 years in storage.they bought it with only 2400 miles on her.from the original owners.he had his own wharehouse so it was virtually kept inside most of its life.

it looks as tho it just rolled off the assembly line.i had to rebuild the airbag system set of tires brakes shocks to make it safe for the road.so far i have about 13000 in it.i am trying to decide to have it totally redone on the inside.or sell it like it is.they kept very good maint and care of it as well.

Ive been told its worth 30,000 as is.but is there someone that can appraise the rv or suggest its realistic value?i see simealer ones with a remodled interior for 20,000 to 30,000 and up.not sure i want to sink in much more in available funds.tell me what you all might think its currenty worth is?

if i can figure out the place for photos ill upload a few of the
gmc.the odometer only reads 20,000 miles but the family i bought it from said he had changed out the odometer along the way.so it could have 120,000 miles.

let me know what you think its worth un restored in original condition except for the work i had done.

Thanks

As for an appraised value, Jim K http://www.appliedgmc.com/ is on the West coast anf Jim B http://www.gmccoop.com/ is in Florida.

Post some pics, you will probably get a lot of 2 cent answers.

I have a set of rear seats I would be willing to sell, I have no idea what they would be worth. I am not sure how we would get them from Oklahoma to Calif.

Jim K. with applied GMC does apprasiels, on his web site he has a page that you fill out the information and he then gets back with you.

There are a number of GMC'ers in No. Calif, Oregon and Western Nevada that are maybe not far from you. Many of us travel the area, so how about letting us know the village you live in? Has the brake pedal cover been replaced, or does it look worn? Maybe give one an idea of mileage. Jim Kanomata, and Nick his sidekick at Applied GMC in Fremont CA are a good source of info.
appliedgmc.com and 1 800 752-7502. Jim Bounds at gmccoop.com in FLA has a used GMC list for sale, if you want to compare.
Welcome aboard and good luck.

Don, (?)

I typed a response to your first post but the forum was off-line when I posted. (I understand the sever had power issues.) Anyway a few comments.…

1. Nice Birch. Looks like a nice coach. I have always been attracted to nice clean all white coaches. From the pictures, you have a SIDE BATH, built in the last part of ’76. (It has the Electro-Level (1) leveling system.) Your not receiving any replies about the missing rear bed, is mostly due to two problems with your posting. One is where you posted… I cover that below. The second is there are two main types of Birch’s… the more common rear bath (like mine) and the side bath like yours. The rear beds are totally different.

I would suspect the rear dinette was removed to install some kind of fixed bed. (Do you really need the seats, or the bed? I would just install a flat “frame” and a double bed mattress.) I think the original Birch seats are different but it should be the same size as the ones from the 23 foot GMC upfitted coaches. (1973/1974) You may want to post some measurements. I have a rear “dinette” type seating from my ’73 26 foot Painted Desert that could be cut down. (It is wood framed, newer ones are metal.) There are also front dinettes that might be the size you need.

2. I hope you realize that the numbers you where throwing around in you first post where prices of VERY nice coaches at the peak of the market -- a few years ago. While many of us would like to see these prices again, (I DO have two coaches!) I do not think we’ll see it for some time. Current prices are 40 to 60% lower than the peak of the market. (Note that parts and labor are just as much as before… it is a good time to by an nice coach.) When looking at your pictures, I would have to point out that it looks like the seats, dinette and carpet have been recovered/replaced. (IE –not- original.) You should check out “GMC Brochures and Magazine Advertisements” on bdubs site. http://www.bdub.net/GMCLinks.html He has several Birchaven brochures.

3. You have posted in the swap meet section of the web forum. The first post (sticky) in the swap meet is “Purpose of the Swap Meet” by batman: “This forum can be used for posting GMC related items for sale.” To get the most exposure, you need to post in the “main” forum. But it isn’t that easy… Unlike most forums, just wandering in off the net and posting on the web based forum will NOT get to all the users of the forum. It will only get to the users of the WEB based forum and NOT to the eMail based forum. (eMail is the first and most used method.) To get to all users, follow the instructions found here:

http://www.gmcnet.org/gmcnetguidelines.html#RULE6

You may also want to “set delivery off” if you are going to use the web forum… like me.

OBTW, welcome to the forum and GMC (Get More Cash) ownership. Laughing

Hi Mike,

I appreciate your input and knowledge of the gmcs.
I was just judgeing what other fellow gmcers might think of what the price should be.A.should i just be happy breaking even investment wise or B.sell it for what it would fetch on the open market as high as possible?

I havent used or figured out if i need the mailing list.but you do make a good point that id reach more possible buyers.I think i plan on useing the forums. As far as the interior i have not changed anything.i did build a temp bed with some ply board and 2 by 4s seem to work fine.

I just wanted it to be more original condition thinking that would keep or increase its value.Prior to buying it i have no idea as to what the former owner did to it.he went to a dimential care home and i only delt with his family.they said he changed the odometer it looks like he replaced the house water tank.the alternator he had it fixed pretty nice.

it has some kind of alarm system thats been deactivated.i replaced the sound system and also got a back up camera.I am kinda at the point of just breaking even or sending it to a shop to be compleatly redone inside.Thats what it needs the most attention is the interior needs to be redone.but everything works to my knowleadge.i havent charged the propane systems yet.

I just wanted to see what other gmcers thought its fair market value is?i know that you never recoup all your costs with any vechicle upon selling it.i have seen some other gmc in this section.if i posted incorrectly ill go check the forum facts/rules again.

Thanks again for the help here. Embarassed

It wasn't clear in any of your posts, are you trying to sell this coach?
