Greetings,

I've wanted to own a GMC for a long time but I ultimately ended up with a 1972 Revcon- For those not familiar with them, it is also a tornado based Motorhome built from 71 to the late 80's. most of the drive train parts are compatible with the GMC.

So, i have found a 74 GMC with a rotted frame and no title that I am planning to part out and keep the drive train parts.

I have not seen it, i am told the interior and exterior are good.

So, if it is not offensive to this groups, I'd love to know what parts are in high demand and what they are worth. That will help me decide how much money and effort to put in to this salvage project.

Dave,
One of our members has a small business parting out GMC's which he begain only a few years ago -- Michael Bozart.
He has fairly complete coaches for sale for $500 as he is doing an inventory reduction.
Maybe that gives you an idea of market value of the one you are looking at.

I saw that listing and it was quite discouraging. For as long as I've lusted after one of these things people were asking outragous money for basket cases. I guess the economy has hit it pretty hard.

But the inventory reduction is in Texas and I am in Eastern NC so perhaps there are Mid-Atlantic people who might be interested.

Or, I may take that posting with me and try to get the GMC for less.

Thanks - this is a pretty nice group.

A rotted frame pretty much is a death warrant for all but the nicest coaches. Frames are WAY to much to replace. (Unless the full chassis is pulled from a parts coach from a non-rust belt area.) Parting it out will, most likely, be best. From the sound of it, the cash value is less than it would cost to move it.

Gordon ('74 Canyon Lands "Tin Gerbil" of Vancouver Island, B.C.) parted one out not to long ago. You maybe able to get pointers from him.

It would be good if you posted the location, there may be others around that will help.

I am in Eastern NC south of Norfolk. The vehicle in question is in Chesapeake.

You may want to post in the main forum. The main forum also goes out to many eMail list users who never log on to the web-based forum. You also can get (and give) advice of drive train subjects. (While no longer with us, we had a frequent contributor with a Olds powered Cortez for years.)

The swap meet is for selling (or trading/bartering/giving away/buying) parts when you do happen to actually part out a GMC.

I am on the other side of the country. A little far to stop by and help disassemble anything. Shipping would make any thing cost to much for me... other than very small/light items.

I would agree w/Mike to some degree; there have been guys on here that did frame swaps and a guy who sells new frames. Might be worthwhile to get it on the main forum to see what info you get.

I got this information from the GMC Information site:

Frame Rails -source
Daniel Stuckey 519-357-2583
At the Marion rally, he was selling the frame rails $1700 a set, drilled, primed and finish coated with epoxy paints. Ready to mount. Patrick

Unfortunately, these posts for the most part don't have entry dates and there are some broken and expired links; this was the only reference I found under Frames category. I recall someone posting a photo album of a full frame replacement with a galvanized setup that looked superior to the factory frame and made my mouth water.

Someone will remember and post the info here - if you change the Subject name to "Replacement Frame Sources Wanted" and start the new thread in the regular forum.

Jim Bound's shop has access to frame parts, including front clips (like I saw your coach probably needed - at the least) all the way to full frames - all used. He's out of town right now but will be back in a day or so. Check his Blog at:
http://www.gmccoop.com/dailypose.htm

When you see his posts resume at the shop, he'll have enough time to answer the phone.
