Chuck,
Reading what you wrote about your heart attack was riveting, made me forget all of what little troubles I have, and most of all made me thankful there is a bunch of people who like old stuff, who have wives who put up with them and are friendly to other wives married to the defective, who make a fine life of the hand dealt, and having people who not only can repair a transmission in a GMC from parts from another, but can write like you and Dan can, and relatively few others much know what a fine slice of humanity you represent and Dear God, may You bless and keep Chuck and Dan and look after their loved ones while the unwanted spotlight is on them.
(I liked reading Hemingway as a kid and kind of studied English and see what it got me.)
Thank you and may God continue to shower blessings on you and the Docs who are tending to you, and may I be forgiven for continuing this hijack.

Snow Canyon, near St. George is on a highway between Cedar City and St. George. Another stop along that highway is Pine Valley Utah. Great campground in the Dixie National Forest. Although in southern Utah it is not accessible in the winter due to deep snow. It is way off the beaten path but it has cool refreshing Mountian breeze in the afternoon and is a good place to escape from the summer heat. You can also take a tour of the old Pine Valley chapel that was built by a ship builder. Very interesting construction, basically an up side down ship.

I've been told that Hwy 50 isn't really the lonliest road, just had
better PR. I have been on a few roads that had less traffic than Hwy 50,
but they weren't as long.
I sure enjoyed our travels on it, though, I could drive as fast as I
wanted....About 50. Nobody tailgating me and honking.

We know Hwy 50. Saw about only one car when we drove it in Oct. 1995. It
was a 60's Chevy with the windows down. It passed us like we were standing
still--driven by a woman with her hair flying out the window. Left us
eating her dust. One if our good memories made while traveling.

Not going in for an overhaul yet. The Surgeon said that I will need an
aortic valve at some time in the future. It is presently moderate but not
severe. He told me to keep living a healthy lifestyle and when it worsens,
we will have it fixed.

For sure you can't go wrong with a well tuned Q-Jet, mine did well for many
Years. For me I didn't want to deal with the carb anymore and when the
FiTech came out at what I thought was a very good price I couldn't resist.
Before I took the plunge I did read a bunch of reviews, 95% was very
Positive, some reviews were negative but that mostly was towards the fuel
Command center issues which by the time I got mine those issues were
Supposedly resolved. I did get my set up from Jason at the thegmcrv.com.
Anyway, so far no regrets!

I have had a GMC coach since 1997. Not the longest here by any means. It
had less than 80,000 miles on the clock. Now over 135,000. So it gets used.
I have been towed once. Other than that, I have driven it home every time
it left. Crossed Canada in 2012, lost a mechanical fuel pump. Retraced
Route 66 in 2015. NO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS. If you prepare them correctly,
and do your due diligence maintenence, they are very reliable. Your
experience will vary.

Jeremy, your report is inspirational in more ways than one.
Being mature, no children, but using our '73 for area and international
rallies, two trips from Texas to Alaska, one to the Maritimes, and to
Oregon last year, we can appreciate your family memory-making trips.

Your right Bob. I go to all the Winternationals & World finals in Pamona ca. They are quite mindblowing.
My 76 palm desert runs great also now. Just the odd vapour lock. But an inline elec.booster pump solves that.

Earlier this month I had my 60th birthday and my wife surprised me with a family trip to the NHRA Finals in Brainerd, MN. I don't follow drag racing,
but I have always wanted to see what it looks like for a vehicle to go from 0 to 330 mph in under 4 seconds. The races were incredible and we even got
to see the fastest time ever recorded in the sport which was done by the Papa Johns car.
Now to get to the GMC portion. Just before our trip began I started hearing a whining noise as the engine was running. I determined that the noise was
coming from the A/C pulley and could also see some wobble in it. I decided to remove the belt and run with just roof air and the genset.
The first leg of our trip was from Rapid City, SD to Dickinson, ND to meet up with our son, who caravanned with us to Brainerd. On the way to
Dickinson everything was going fine until the clutch fan kicked in. Then the remaining two belts started squealing. We listened to the noise all the
Dickinson, whenever the fan would engage. The next morning my son and I got up and tightened the belts, which took about 20 minutes. That fixed the
problem and we were off to Brainerd, MN.
We drove to about 450 miles to Brainerd and averaged about 9 mpg traveling an average speed of 65 mph. The GMC performed flawlessly. We boondocked for
about 4 days in the on site campground called "THE ZOO" (appropriately named) and again the GMC worked perfectly. It had rained 2" the night before we
arrived and the campground was nothing but mud and soft ground. I couldn't believe we never even spun a tire getting to our campsite.
We left Sunday afternoon and drove half way home. We stayed in the Cabela's parking lot and then drove the last leg of our journey to arrive home just
before the eclipse. In total we drove 1377 trouble free miles and averaged about 9 mpg ( we even got over 10 mpg on one tank). I almost forgot to
mention that the whole trip was done with 2 finger steering thanks to Alex Farerra's magic touch about two years ago. It ran and handled perfectly.
What a great trip!
Before this trip, I was hesitant to take my GMC very far from home. Since most of the posts on this site are about repairs and trouble shooting I have
gotten a little gun shy. As a matter of fact I was nervous for the first 500 miles of the trip that something was going to break. However the imho
there is no more comfortable rv to drive than our classic coaches. I wanted to enter a success story, if for no other reason than to reassure the
newbies that these GMC's can be very reliable and enjoyable to drive. Based on my first hand experience, I would advise anyone to make your coach safe
and reliable and then go out and enjoy the fruits of your labor. I can't wait for our next trip.
PS: I also recommend everyone go see a Top Fuel drag race at least once. It is an experience that is hard to describe and you'll always remember.
