Training the next generation...?

Bonneville HS in Utah won Best Shop Class in the nation through O'Reilly Auto Parts. Scholarships, big check for the program, national exposure, etc. They painted a GMC Motorhome for one project.

I'm not sure who reached out to whom, but Jim Bounds is there now showing the class how to drop and replace the entire drive train amongst other things. Two very experienced GMC mechanics, Jason the head mechanic from the defunct Coop and Mark Creel from Alabama RV, took the road trip to Utah with Jim in Jim's GMC.

Here's a short behind the scenes video from the HS group

And here's a video from Jim

There are more videos about the project and lead up to it on his YouTube channel.

This is a wonderful development and kudos to Jim Bounds for making it happen. If GMCs are to continue to be driven, and not become just collector vehicles, new and younger blood mechanics are needed to replace the old timer mechanics who have moved on.

More such endeavors, scattered around the country, would help inspire interest in GMCs and insure the safety and well being of GMCs and their owners. Anyone have an in with a HS shop program or teacher...??

Richard
