Gentlemen,

When greasing the bogie pins is it best to remove one zerk and flow the grease consistently from one Zerk and out the removed Zerk?

We do this on aircraft props so that we are always flushing out to old grease and also not over pressuring the seals. Greasing is always done in the same direction year after year so that the grease always flows in the same direction (old out, New in)

Thanks for any thoughts.

Take care,
Tom K.

Tom,

Many like to use a straw to clear the old grease. I don't believe that is necessary, but if it make you feel better.

I use Valvoline Synpower with Moly. (VV985) This grease does not age or separate and the Molybdenum Di-Sulfide adds to the film strength.

There is only one Zerk per pin unless you have added an aftermarket setup. I see grease coming out inboard and outboard seal areas so never added the aftermarket stuff.

John,

I do have the 2 Zerk modified grease fitting. Matt I will be using Synpower. I guess the best answer to grease to overflow and grease often.

Guys thanks for your help and tips.

Take care,
Tom K.

P.S. Hopefully see you guys in Mississippi.

Some bogie pins have two internal grease ports and some have one. GM must have changed this at some point in time. Before making a dual zerk fitting I probed my bogie pins with a bicycle spoke. The two ports correspond to the bushing positions. Grease would only backflow until I took the weight of the coach off the rear tires. Then the grease flowed easily. The coach is a 76 Royale.
