I recently acquired a 77 GMC motor home with a Capri awning. I have no idea how this thing operates. Haven't figured out yet how it opens up and how to support it. Any information or diagrams would very appreciated. Tried a google search but no go.

Bruce,
I'd remembered seeing an ad for Capri Awnings in Bill Bryant's voluminous GMC historical collection. Bill graciously gave the scans/pictures to GMCMI and a fair bit was posted on the GMCMI site.

You'll find a couple of Inst-Awn Capri Awning print ads under the Awnings section. One of them has a three step instructions for setup. Hopefully it's just that easy!

Hope this helps.

Richard

After eight years in outside storage, it was difficult to get the support slides to move out of its holding bracket because of the accumulating dirt. Then there were three clips that had to be pushed up to allow awning to roll out. There are no clips to insert the legs to on side of the coach so I would guess previous owner just stood them on the ground. Found four long nails in back of frig compartment. Will roll back but not completely. Maybe if I cycle a few times, it will roll all the way back.

That's good news, Bruce. I'm sure it'll loosen up with time. I started spraying sliding aluminum parts with Lemon Pledge, the furniture polish, on the recommendation of a Little Giant Ladder trade show rep years ago. Works great, leaves a dry film and doesn't attract dust and dirt.

I guess the Capri Awning was an early box awning - I thought they came about much later. I've only seen the Insta-Awn Capri print ads and would love to see what it looks like on a GMC.
