GMCnet is receiving and sending email to the list. Just not receiving from
the forum, where all the action is these days. Nobody is posting emails
here either.
The server host changed hands recently and seems inept, so Patrick is
considering moving to a different host. But since nobody seems to be using
it, what's the use?

Thoughts?

I am exclusively an email user. I don’t log into forums unless I am
desperately trying to diagnose an issue which only a forum might answer.

I’ve always really liked the email list (and the Google Archive), but my feeling is that it’s been kind of hard to know for certain that posts are getting to the email list - so my plan was to (try) watching the forum (and new forum) from now on…

Hi Billy
I’ve been on the email list for something like 17 years, really enjoyed and
learned from it.
A couple of weeks ago it just seemed to stop, which I mentioned to you at
the time.

I hope it returns. Always liked how it worked. FB is full of misinformation
although there are a few good guys. The other forum (Christos) is quite
good but not yet up to the level our old email forum imho.

Sounds like something technical has failed to keep the email side
operating. Not just lack of participation.

I would vote to return to where we were. I refer to the archived info from
years back often. Invaluable!

Sincerely
E

I am also on the email list primarily. When using a phone, it is much
easier to view and send messages than needing to log on to the forum.

Thanks Billy for all you do four us GMCers.

I am just back from vacation and see emails have stopped on May 24.  I prefer the email format, it is quick and easy to navigate.  I will be pulling the GMC out of storage next week and will likely have some questions and input to others.Thanks.

I have a project going on with a hydro-boost set up. Does anyone have any
notes they want to share on parts and installation.

Hey, Manny,

Great to hear from you after TOO long!

I've had the hydroboost installed for about 5+ years now (including a
couple of idle years with Covid pandemic). I've never achieved anything
like the sensitivity Bob Stone does, without knowing why, so I'm of no help
to you (I'm considering going back to a metric vacuum booster with a 2-step
MC if my 85 yo body ever agrees).

At any rate, I'm glad to hear from you and require you to give Deo a hug
for me!

Hurry and keep that promise to bring her to visit us!

Manny, You might want to look into HydroMax. Same idea as HydrpBoost, but has an electric pump, in addition to the power steering pump power. That way if the engine fails, you have more that the 1 or two stops that the hydroboost accumulator gives you. I have the HydroMax on my Ford F53 chassis SOB

Manny do you have a power steering pulley for your system.?
I used a Dorman pulley for a 5.0L Olds motor. Same size as the pen one. I had to change my pump as it was a 1973 and used a nut to hold the pulley on, the new pump was press on. You will want to make sure that the flow valve is for a flare, not O ring.
On my Jeep project I built my own hoses . All reusable fittings.
What master cylinder are you planning on using?

Back during the Great Recession, I used to sit in my office all day with very little to do, so I read every GMC Net email as they came up. If there was a topic I thought I was qualified to comment on, I would open the forum in a new tab and do a reply from there.

Once business picked up a bit, and since I have (mostly) retired, I haven't had time to read through the emails. I still check in on this forum regularly and comment when I have something to say.

Bottom line, without a dog in this fight, I would like to see both platforms remain, maybe for no other reason than I don't like change.

He installed a P30. I want to replace it .He teed off the steering pump
line and I want to use Ken electric wipers setup so I have to replace that
too.
What I'm most interested in is the brake bar. I thought the bracket for the
hydro-boost had to be moved. This one seems original.
The steering pump has the press pulley.
As a side note, the engine was fuel injected. He had the aluminum intake
drilled for the rail injectors. Pretty neat setup but I couldn't get it to
run because of the rust issue.
