I’m noodling with some ideas around lithium batteries, inverters, and replacing the Onan.
If a large battery bank were configured at higher voltage, say 48 volts, the wire size could be significantly smaller and the inverted efficiency might be better. The generator cabinet is plenty big enough for a load of batteries, but charging them would take a much larger alternator, and if the voltage is higher, well, a separate alt might be in order.
Having a second large alternator run from the engine would give significant charge while underway. Did Oldsmobile have brackets for auxiliary generators or even a smog pump? What are modern RV’s doing to charge their batteries?
This is likely just a conversation starter.

I think in another thread someone was pondering switching their overhead A/C to one of the new Coleman DC units, eliminating the dash air, and using the AC bracket to host another alternator to power it down the road..
I guess if you are matching your Coaches A/C to the higher voltage bank that spot would open up.

How about a serpentine belt and a 48V alternator in place on the 12v one dc to dc converter for 12V?
