I started reading this list back in early 1999, about 6 months after I bought my one and only GMC Motorhome.

At that time there was really only one place where you could ask questions and get good answers, the GMCnet.

Since then, traffic has dropped off drastically. As Erik wrote the other day, "This is the only message I’ve seen on the email net in many days.
Seems to be same with others…. Just to let you know".

Back in the "good old days" you could count on maybe as many as 100 posts a day. Now, it appears there might be less than half dozen a day. And most of those posts are from a small group of pretty experienced owners with good information.

Bdub said "-Of course, all dozen or so GMC groups on Facebook are very busy with questions and answers and showing off our work. Verifying and admitting excited new members keeps me busy every day."

A dozen or more groups? If that's true I am missing out on a lot of information since I really don't want to get involved with Facebook.

About the other groups, Matt said "It is discouraging how much information is put forth there that is either at least wrong if not dangerous. It really is a terrible venue for technical information.

This forum is just awful to work on a phone and the new one is better, but many don't seem to have the time to read the books or look for someone that actually knows what needs to happen. "

The new forum seems to have promise since you can post photos and there are downloadable resources among other things.

What do you guys/gals think about the future of the "GMCnet"?

I think there's a place for all the sites. If there's a "deep" issue this site is invaluable as almost all the guys with experience weigh in.
As a new owner as of March 2021 I was able to get my coach up and running thanks to the advice and guidance I received here. I used the coach all last summer and when winter rolled around I got the advice that enabled me to winterize correctly too.

The facebook pages are ok - an occasional diversion I suppose and the other site is good too. The other site may have even less posts per day than we do here. I find that if a topic has a universal "appeal" then the replies fly in.

Personally, most of my own "problems" have been addressed for the moment so I'm not posting as much as I have done in the past - no doubt I'll need more guidance as time goes by and if I run across a subject that I have experience with, I'll shove my 2¢ in just like everyone else.

Just my experience and btw I read the site on the computer over breakfast, not the phone, why make it difficult?

This forum has been my go to resource for years and I feel it has the best advice and content by far.
Especially helpful has been the ability to search through all the past postings on a particular subject.
References to the photo site tremendously extends the knowledge even if the process is disjointed.

I have not learned how to search on the facebook groups or if it is even possible. I am not sure how long the facebook history is retained as well.

The value of this database and the ongoing input from the GMC experts needs to be disseminated to the newer followers.

Just my opinion.

This site is very much the best for those who seek technical knowledge. Much is not posted because so much knowledge is already contained in the search. Often I don't post for fear of the old "you obviously didn't do a search" that some come back with. Much old knowledge can be up dated with a question. (i.e. the 2 stage master cylinder, I am eagerly awaiting another update status post from Larry W.)

This site is a total archive of GMC knowledge.

Many find the new methods of communicating more comfortable and I like seeing all the progress others are making on the other sites as well.

I was very happy to find that the large sprinter vans are the same length as my 23' Birchaven and I have so many more amenities on board to include my generator. A lot of young people are just now finding the GMC. The best way to promote a GMC is to get it out on the road.

Take care all,
Tom K.
