Guys,

I was very happy to finally sign up on the Black List! As I stated on the list " I think I have gained enough knowledge to finally be helpful to others". Thank you guys for all the knowledge, advise and wisdom you all have given me throughout the year and I am very happy to pay it forward. I hope all the new GMC'ers can be half as great as the generations that have preceded me.

What I forgot to add in the comment section is that I legally carry both a 45 and a 9mm, and am fully capable of getting you out of Baltimore safely, LOL Laughing .

P.S. and with your tires still on. Laughing

Take care all,
Tom K.

P.S. Again: Remember if you have your own gun, it is only a misdemeanor to carry a loaded gun in Baltimore. You'll be back on the street in a couple hours. Better to have it.

Tom,

You have carefully outlined one of the misconceptions of the requirements for being a GMC Assist (aka Black's) list member. There is NO Requirement for members to have any special knowledge, capability or tools. All that is required is a willingness to assist.

I have had the good fortune to be on both sides of the list on a few occasions.
Once, it happened that a forum member was reading of our situation (I had posted here) and knew of a business local to me (where we were) that could get us back on the road. It was a very welcome piece of information. As I recall, that member was in Texas and we were in Arkansas.
Another time, Mary saw a coach parked on the side of a local interstate. She called me and shouted to them. When I got there, the driver was composing an e-mail to me. After a short diagnostic, we got in my car and went to one of the local parts stores (We have three and two nearby parts warehouses). He picked up a new module and a coil (that took two tries - the first number was way wrong). I took him back to his coach. Soon, he was running again.
The most recent time was when badly broken, a list member offered a good place to work. He did also have tools and a willingness to help and those made a very wonderful memory out of a bad situation.

The information about Baltimore is very good to know.

So, if you are reading this and wondering if you should put your name on that list, do it today. You may never get called, and even if you do, the caller may be in need of nothing that you can provide other than local knowledge and comfort. When there is a problem a long ways from home, a little can help a whole lot. This is a helping and supportive community. Be a part of it.

My blacklist experience was back when I bought my TZE. The tires were aged out and the coach was stored in a rural location 400 miles away. I got hold of list member Kym Behrns who lived near the coach. Kym took delivery of the 7 new tires I purchased and stored them till the snow melted. When I was able to drive out to pick up the coach, he met us and helped inflate the old tires as some were dead flat and off the bead.
He knew enough about tires to get them back on the bead and get us moving over to the tire installer where we mounted the new ones. Great guy, forever grateful. Tires installed, we drove the 400 miles home.

Please. Any lurkers, please sign up for black list. Just having someone to call, direct
To a safe parking spot even. Helps. Even holding a flashlight. You dont need to know anything about gmc’s to be a savior to someone.

My first trip out of Oregon with our coach was to a small airport in
Arlington, Washington for a GMC CASCADERS dry camping rally. Motorhomes and
antique aircraft. It don't get no better than that. Good newfound
friendships a bonus.
On the way home, I stopped for gasoline, OMG!! No brakes. Pulled into
the back lot behind a Chevron gas station. Assessed the issue as a failed
master cylinder. Now what?
Got out my newly printed copy of the Black's list. Looked up a close
by member and gave Bill Guise a call. 20 minutes later, he shows up with
tools, brake fluid, etc. Master cylinder beyond repair. He drove me to a
local NAPA store, they didn't have one in stock, but their nearby warehouse
had one. Tomorrow at the earliest. Stayed the night behind the gas station,
who was kind enough to let us plug in. Great owner/operator. Next morning,
bright and early, Bill shows back up, transports me to the NAPA store, and
back with my prized master cylinder, bench bled it, installed it, bled it
(kinda) and bid Bill goodbye and limped home with half assed brakes. Home
never looked so good.
That experience left a life lasting impression. I invented my brake
bleeder, and vowed to join that list to pass it on.
Still at it 14 years later. Do it, you won't regret it.
