Pete,

There seems to be text, but no sigfile. The sigfile part is basic HTML, so if you want something other than a single line of text, you need to put in the controls. I can't show them to you here because they will get interpreted and will not show up.

Matt

Thanks Matt,

I don't know how to HTML. Is there some link where I can cut & paste the needed code?

Hi Matt,

I am getting there, I think.

How do you insert a carriage return? All my text is running together. I didn't see how to on the help page.

Pete, <br>
HTML codes go between a left and right carrot so a carriage return ends up being a "less than"br"greater than". <br>
It looks like what you have is a paragraph with line feed that is just a p between the two. <br>
Hope this helps.<p>
Something has changed. When I look at what I just wrote, the control codes are visible. I put the codes in, but they don't usually show here. <br>

Matt,
It has been a while since I played with my sig file and I still need to do that. Where do I view the HTML code? I tried inserting the "less than carret"-and without a space next to it-"greater than carret" at the end of each line where I want a carriage return (i.e. this <>). But there is no difference.
But another question - I notice that when I post, I see weird country flags next to my name.
What is going on? How do I choose and set a country flag so that it always shows?
Thanks for your help.
Pete P.

Pete, <p>
I have forgotten what the url is for HTML code, but a "br" between the carrets is a line feed.<br>
A "p" between the carrets is a paragraph (double line feed). <p>
There are others also that I never use.<br>
I have no idea where that flag comes from, mine has been Canada for a while now.<p>
Matt

Or...you can go to your account pages and there will be a place for you to type in you sigfile the way you want it and it will code itself.
BTW: this site uses BBcode and not HTML.

OK, I went to my account page typed in what I want along with carriage returns. Let's see if the three lines come out as one or three.

Nope - still one line...

My apologies to Matt. He is correct. HTML is used to compose your sigfile in Control Panel. I was looking at the options next to this box and it says HTML is turned off and BBcode is turned on. Why it is different, I don't know.
Anyway the HTML for a line break is: <br> at the end of each line.

Matt I apologize for stepping in before I did my research. BTW, since this area is coded in BBcode, you can write the HTML code and it will show up as regular text. <br> <p> etc.

Success!!
Very Happy

Adding the left carrot,br,right carrot immediately after each line did the trick.

Now, if someone can tell me how to fix the weird flags next to my name...

I suspect it has to do with me using a VPN.

Regards,
Pete

Pete,

It sure looks like you got it.... .

Now, when you figure how to change the flag, let me know too. Mine has been Canada for a while now.
