Had a little mishap with the GMC and bent the steering column so I am looking for a replacement. There must be lots of acceptable substitutes but I haven't a clue and neither does anyone else I've run across.

You haven't asked here. So, of course you have not found the right person to ask.
You need to send a private message to Chuck Boyd. User name is "C Boyd".
He can tell you exactly what you need. He may also have some that were removed for update to newer version.

Sir, my contact info is on the Black list. Send me some pics or call me. As far as I know there is not a direct replacement for the GMCMH column. I do have parts.
