I thought that all 77-78 GMC's had the full radiator plastic/fiber fan shroud. I just found a 77 with the horse collar. It is an early 77. As it has the 455. So. What's up? Bob Dunahugh

Bob -
I also have a 1977 with a 455 and it has the
“horse collar" as well.

If you check the 78Z Parts Book in section 6.002 you will find two different shrouds under part key 11. A change was made when they switched from the 455 to the 403.
I have the 455 shroud in mine with my 455 engine.

My 1976 - 455 horse collar ended about 12 years ago when I took it off and saved it for reasons unknown. I saved it for a few years in my garage until one day I accidentally ran over it with my pick up. That led led to it's final demise. It is one of the best upgrades I ever did to my GMC.

My 76 23' had the horse collar. My 76 26' has the plastic/fiber one piece shroud. I suspect the 26' had been modified to the newer one since the radiator had been replaced.
