When I was putting my 77 GMC to sleep for the winter, I attempted to slide the A/C lever to heat. I heard a pop and then the level slid freely from side to side. I suspect I broke something. I haven't had a chance to dig in and figure it out. Anyone have advice on what I am in for? Are there replacements available if I did break some plastic component?

Sounds like you broke the pin the levers rotate on. Don't know the actual name but once you pull it apart it will be quite evident.Try Alex Sirum out of Florida, he has a replacement made of aluminium for around $10 if that's your problem. Hal

Or the molded cable end eye that anchors the cable sheath to the control broke and now the entire cable is moving instead of just the core. You will have to see where it is bent the tightest and relieve that stress, repair the cable end with a P type cable clamp, and attempt to lube the cable with some silicone or other plastic-friendly lubricant. Or get a new/another cable and install it with minimum bending to make the action easier on the AC control assembly.

Until you pull the controller out and inspect, you just guessing as to what
is possibly going on.
All the possibilities have been posted. We stock replacement parts or can
have it repaired so

Have someone move the temp lever while you watch cable under the drivers side hood where it moves temp door lever on side of air box. If not moving problem is under dash.

A few years ago the plastic piece that fastens the cable to the door lever broke. I called Jim B kinda freaking out. He says "go to your local Chevy dealer and get you one, they are still available". Probably the only piece on the coach that was.. IIRC it was < 1$.
