Since getting our GMC last March, we have been on nine camping trips. Most have been weekend trips, but this week we just completed our longest trip, 5 days and just over 900 miles. Kids had the first week of the year off as part of Xmas break, so we planned a trip to Northern California with some friends that have an SOB. We met our friends on the North side of the Grapevine and then headed to Gilroy (The Garlic Capital of the World). Spent the night nearby at Coyote Lake Park which is a very nice, reasonably priced campground where we saw wild turkeys, boar, deer and cows. The next day we headed to the Winchester house and then to Monterey to stay the night at the fairgrounds. Went to the aquarium the next day and then drove to San Simeon State Park. Hearst Castle the next day and a trip to see the Elephant Seals. The seals return to the same beach just North of Hearst Castle every year about this time to give birth and we actually were there when one took place! Later in the day we headed to Carpinteria State Beach for the night and headed home the next day. At the risk of jinxing myself......the GMC did great! I didn't even open my tool box the entire trip. Used about a half quart of oil and averaged about 6.5 MPG, but there were a few big hill climbs so I wasn't too surprised.

Elephant seal birth witnessed, and all the other great times your motorhome has given you, that's a great trip report. Thanks for letting us know no-problem trips are the possible norm.

I think I saw you! Last week, Not sure which day it was, but I had just
gotten of the highway at Casa Verde Way in Monterey (near the fair grounds)
and was waiting at the stop sign as you drove by. I was so envious.

Glad you had a great trip.

Nice report on a nice trip. We will be leaving on a week long, 1000 mile trip to Nevada (Las Vegas to visit with daughter, son in law, and grandkids, then Valley of Fire State Park and Boulder Beach) on Friday.

Although we have never had a problem with the GMC out on the road in over nine years of ownership. I am always apprehensive. I guess it comes from reading horror stories here and on Facebook, and general paranoia about driving a 42 year old motorhome all over the countryside. Wink

Tom,
Always glad to hear of fun and successful trips in the GMC. That's why we do this. Right!? I enjoy seeing the pictures from fun GMC trips and Rallies on the photo site. Maybe we'll see you at a rally some day.

Happy Travels,
Russell

I bet you did! We drove through there heading towards the fairgrounds Wednesday afternoon and towards the aquarium Thursday morning.

I'm really hoping to make it to the GMCMI/Western States rally in Tucson this year. The kids have the first week of April off for spring break so that helps a little. Thinking we all get there at the beginning and then maybe send the kids and mom home early. Not sure how that'll go over, but I'd really like to go to one of these big rallies and this one is about as close as I've seen to so cal.

I would definitely encourage you to be there. You will have a great time and learn a lot.
