It was three years ago on January 4, 2015 that we lost our GMC friend Dan Gregg.
We think of and remember him often around here.

Ice Cream anybody?

Sorry for the late posting but I lost track of the date. As Laurie says every day is Saturday when you are retired.

I think of Dan often also. He was a fine, fine man. He and Teri epitomized the soul of a GMCer.

How could anyone remember Dan other than fondly? And we still miss Teri's
cheerful presence at every convention.

For those that did not get the honor of knowing Dan:

http://danandteri.blogspot.com/?m=1

Thank you for reminding me to remember him. I keep byron's illustration of Dan up and see it daily to remeber the correct outlook on life. This week eapecially as it seems I can not currently use one hand to count the people close to me suffering from cancer this week.

I had the privilege of meeting the Greggs at a couple of gatherings - truly fine GMCers and gracious individuals as well. A loss.

As to the number of cancer victims these days, both recovered and not, I equate the situation (NOT the individuals, the situation) to the rising incidence of cancer in dogs. With very few exceptions, most of which appear to be genetically linked, we see the disease in older dogs. The feeling is, modern veterinary medicine and attention to food and conditions allows the animals to live longer, and many live long enough now to develop cancers which appear over a long term. Which analysis frankly doesn't ease my mind much at 73.... but Ken Henderson and Henry Whatsisname down in HHarlem GA both at 80 or so, give me some hope for the future.

I never had the honor of meeting Dan, however his presence here lives on, in fact whenever I run across a post from Dan, I always +1 his karma...he's up to 207! Perhaps we should retire his ninja turtle avatar to the rafters.

Judy's Mom and Dad still live independently in the house her dad built. We
stop in to see them a couple of times a week. George was born on Christmas
eve. We celebrated his 100th birthday Christmas day. He is a decorated WW
ll and Korean War Marine veteran. He survived the Cho Sin Resevoir seige.
After the wars (both of them), he returned home, raised his children,
became a volunteer firefighter, VFW and Elk member, built custom homes,
lived life well. Chukkar, Dove, Deer, Elk hunter, Crack shot at the skeet
and trap and sporting clays until his hips wore out. STILL A MARINE. I BET
HIS UNIFORM STILL FITS HIM. PROUD TO HAVE HIM AS MY FATHER IN LAW. There
is hope for the rest of us with examples like him to follow.

I had more than one laugh with Dan . As others have said, a great guy!

I don't know where cancer comes from or why some people survive when others
don't, but after 5 surgeries followed by chemo and radiation, I have
survived throat cancer, It has been said only the good die young...and thus
Dan !

I will go about planning my 100th birthday party ...and I will expect most
of you to attend !

Thank you for the reminder Ken. Dan was a fine man and a fine friend. Even though we were able to get together only an couple of times per year, I still counted Dan as one of my best friends. I suspect a lot of people felt that way about him. He was just that kind of guy.

For some reason, I just don't find participation in this forum as fun as it was when Dan was on here all the time. He is truly missed.

Happy birthday Emory!

It just crossed my mind.... someone who knows Teri longer and better than I might invite her to join us at a rally, if it will produce fond memories rather than sad ones. Bean Station comes to mind, there's a nice Air BnB six miles from the Samsels' which cost me I believe $22 a night.

Mike, I think you have made a 1 year, 364 day error in your calculations. That is how much older than you that I am now!

BTW, my first ever NEW car was a 1962 Corvair Monza 2 door coupe. I'd like to find one in good shape of the later vintage with improved rear suspension that wasn't so likely to roll over!

Teri still has kids in AZ and visits frequently. I'll mention the GMCMI in April and invite her to stop in if she happens to be in the area at that time.

Ken,

Somewhere there is a photo of him at a GMCMI Convention with a lighted sign around his neck that said something about ice cream, I
think he was holding a big stuffed toy as well.

I searched the photo site but couldn't find it.

Helen and I stopped by Dan and Terri's home a couple of times and were always made to feel like family.
