Well, I think I got it sealed up. At least so far. Next will be the final drive oil change. I guess from what I read it should be changed now. Gotta find that single piece gasket. Still seemed to be a little wet up front of the transmissionpan around the final drive. Don't know if the gasket is leaking on the final drive or if there are transmission leaks happening in some tube connections higher up on the transmission. Not sure of what or where yet.

Thanks guys for all the help!

Tom,
Majority of the time , the trans fluid leak around the Final drive comes
from the trans fill tube that enters into the Final drive.
As the torque converter leaks down, the trans level jumps up about 2" and
the O rig on the tube leaks.
Solution to that is to wipe down both sides of the tube and hole and coat
sealent and bolt it down.
There is a small weeping hole in the same area that will leak either fluid
(trans/ Final ) we see more of it as the final drive pion seals fail.

I recently upgraded to the remote transmission dipstick tube that Applied GMC sells. It has a great seal where the tube goes into the final drive PLUS the convenience of being able to check the transmission fluid from under the hood vs. opening the engine hatch is awesome.

An upgrade well worth the money!

Ray,

I have the same tube in Double Trouble and when I discussed it with Manny he noted that the standard dipstick tube is part of the
vent system of the transmission and if the remote fill tube does not vent it can cause problems. He did not specify what the
problems were.

I have been considering the remote dipstick also, but would sure like to know if there are draw backs to it!
Any body out there know what Manny was referring to?
I sure would like the convenience of checking from under the hood!!!

I moved a coachone that had one oof those. I had a big fluid leak and I was adding trans fluid on every gas stop. Found out that it was reading 2 quarts lower than the actual fluid level and we were over filling the trans on every stop. It probably was installed incorrectly. It ws cold weather and snowing so We did not take the time to diagnose why it was reading the wrong levels.

I suggest if you install one of these, that you check the level on the original stick and then after installation you check the level again to verify the new one reads the same level correctly.

Mike,

If it doesn't vent is a drawback and it is long so when you add fluid you have to do it sssssssslllllooooooowwwwwwllllllyyyyyy or it
will flow out of the funnel.
