Sorry about mentioning "disabled for a while", especially prematurely.
Until yesterday morning I was scheduled to be in surgery RIGHT NOW.
Nothing really serious, but disabling fully for a short while and partially
for a long time: Just surgery on my right thumb for osteoarthritis. I've
been having trouble, and 3 months between steroid shots for over a year.
Condition and schedule finally persuaded me to schedule it for 0530 this
morning.

Then, on Tuesday, I had an appointment with the replacement for my retired
cardiologist. Since I'm old and haven't had one once since before a stent
was installed 8 years ago, he suggested I might ought to have a cardio
stress test. Even though the EKG and sonogram looked good, I said "OK".
Only later did I realize that I should have said, "I'll call you Friday to
schedule it". Why, 'cause the osteo surgeon got wind of it and won't do
the hand surgery until he sees the results. :-(

I've moved the stress test forward to next Tuesday and the thumb work to
next Thursday. I'm confident the results will be good. Thus, my
announcement here was premature.

The bad part about the "disabled" is that they say I won't have any use of
my right hand for at least a couple of weeks, minimum use for a couple of
months, and not full recovery for 6-12 months. :-( Sounds like SHE'll
even have to zip my pants for me! And without my "mini-vice-grip", I'll
probably go stir crazy -- heck, that left hand doesn't even do a good job
of scratching my butt!

Didn't mean to make this an "old folks' usual conversation", but it is what
it is.

The GMC's chassis battery is weak and the 2 golf cart house batteries are
5+ years old. They're all likely to REQUIRE replacement before I'm fully
recovered, so I'm going to take care of that today, while I still can.
Because of their location on the Ragusa right front tray, and my other
mods, I have to use a special jig to remove them through the wheel well.
:-(

Sorry to hear about your upcoming surgery - but enjoyed the humor in your post.
I have this vision of you as a super GMC capable so imagined you might do an engine swap today as well.

Speedy recovery!
Dennis

You need to tell the cardiologist he's gonna have to work on the GMC.
Good luck with the procedure, I'll keep you in my prayers.

Ken,

Hoping and praying for a speedy recovery and a positive outcome for you.

I'm sure you can count on some of your local buddies to help with some of the heavy work in the mean time. I think there are a lot of people who 'owe' you. Wink

Ken,
Don't feel like the lone ranger. Ada and I are taking a time out. She is
going thru radiation and chemo and I had tests today showing my gallbladder
is not playing with others and the cyst on my liver has doubled in size in
four years. Will see what the DRs' want to do next week.

Good luck to you and Ada, Jim. My gangrenous gall bladder was yanked back in January and I sure feel a whole lot better now!

Ken,

A man that I know uses a "voice to text" system on his computer. It is about 90% effective. That could be 90% more effective than you could be at Columbus method single handed typing.

That is not all that bad if you recall when Emery tried to respond, but the pain killers took over. (I wish I could find that again.)

Bad news maybe? I gave your contact information (from Black's list) so you may have someone to talk to while recovering.

I hope it all turns out to be incredibly boring. Sometimes excitement is just not a welcome thing.

Jim,

I sure hope Ada's treatment is working well and will have perfect outcome.
Likewise with your trials. Y'All are having SO much more to be concerned
about than I have that I almost regret having mentioned my little
tribulation.

Best of Luck!

Look into Dragon Dictation software. My wife uses this to transcribe medical notes for her every day and it's very effective. Much higher than 90%. She rarely has to go back and edit anything. Incredible software. Her wrists are in much better shape now that she doesn't have to spend hours typing every night.

Ken,

A man that I know uses a "voice to text" system on his computer. It is about 90% effective. That could be 90% more effective than you could be at
Columbus method single handed typing.

Ken,
Everything that hits us health and medically at our age is nothing to
sneeze at. I thought it was a pulled muscle in my right side. Take it
EZ and do what the Docs' say. Tricare is my best friend at the moment.
Stay well.
