Good day,

your guess as to who won:

http://possy.de/ac.jpg

Anyone has an idea what to do now? Just throw the A/C away, eventhough
it is /just/ the shroud? Or do I have other options?

Good day, Peer!

I strongly suspect that one or more of our brethren here probably has an original A/C that has failed and been removed/replaced but kept around for lack of motivation or place to scrap it.

Both of my original units still work so I'm no help there.

I'm not that familiar with the Beaufort scale, but suspect the force 12 is 50 miles per hour or greater!

A lot depends upon whether this is your USA or Germany coach.

Thanks Mac,
> A lot depends upon whether this is your USA or Germany coach.

it is for the European coach.

Our first multi night outing coincided with one of the first strong
storms and we were on an island that houses the windsurfing world cup
every year or so... ;-)

Peer,

New / used shrouds are available, Google the Make, Model; and Shroud and see what pops up.

I recieved a call yesterday and was told to come get some parts.

Nothing I really want was in his list, but i will try to find new homes for some of his items, and never know if he has something I need.

Anyway- part of his list was two OEM working air conditioners. Maybe a bugger to ship, but you will be welcome to the schroud if needed.

But.. my favorite upgrade was to my new, quieter, blows more cold air then ever A/C unit with heat pump. 9 amps running vs the old circuit breaker popping/cord melting OeM.

Take the remains of the glamour shield off and refasten the metal housing with the screws and nuts. Paint it white or coach roof color and keep on gettin' it down the road to your next destination. Mine has been off for over a year and it just looks a little militaristic in that ugly color 'cause I didn't paint it. So tell anybody that asks that you are in the EM-50 from the movie "Stripes"! If your in real heat you will notice a difference when you paint the forward part of the metal shroud white because that is the air intake duct and is normally shaded with the glamour shield. I repaired my shield but I can't get it back on because it apparently shrunk over the years and since it was fastened down, it cracked instead. When I rejoined the cracks with fiberglass and resin, it is now shorter than the AC unit Mad Laughing If the AC works, just toss whats left of your shield, no one even notices mine is gone.

Jon, what model did you get? Gotta link to it? I am wanting to replace mine with a less power-hungry one but have not found the holy grail of ACs as you have...then I can give Peer my glamour shield next time he comes over and maybe he can stretch it over his unit...

I have put a meter on when running, at startup it would not jump over 9 amps. Usually running 7 amps. But i do not live in florida or texas heat. I rarely fire up rear A/C. And only to cool thing down quicker when ac has been off. It is not low profile, but cost reflects that. Everybody I know has been happy with their atwood.

Thanks Jon, checking it out now...have the Coleman unit in my amazon cart waiting for abundance of GMC bucks to magically appear, and now have the Atwood 13.5 to compare that unit to. Haven't found the 15.5 yet. All I had read before (on the forum) indicated to NOT get the Dometic unit for several reasons.

Peer,
Get model, make and model # and I can find out if there is a universal fit
unit.
It will be helpful if you can get us the height and width.
We have access to all the various RV parts.
They run around $300.

Adventure RV seems to have the best price at this time. Take your pick:

thank you very much for the kind offer. I'll go with Terry's suggestion,
as shipping these humongous things from the US to Germany is just not
worth it. Eventually, the A/C will get removed and either replaced with
a 220V A/C unit, or with a simple vent. After all, our average
temperatures around here do call more times than not for a heater rather
than an A/C :-)

Thanks again, and have a great remaining Sunday.

Peer, I have the greatest respect for all the people across the pond that put together these coaches. From parts availability and cost, to fuel prices when you use them.
And we moan about our costs here in the states.

This summer I travelled with my 26' from VA to AppliedGMC and back, and
got my shock after crossing the Rockies. The first gas station I hit in
CA wanted 3,79 a gallon, went back to the Interstate to drive to the
next, which was way cheaper... at 3,76iirc... fuel prices in Europe atm
are only about 20-30% more than in California. California itself had
(this summer) fuel prices which sometimes (near the desert) where more
than twice what I had paid in TN. So I do understand people complaining
about costs in the states.

This weekend was very nice, as I was only driving highways, no Autobahn,
kept it below 55, and managed to get 416km out of 95l of fuel, which
means roughly 13mpg - compared to nearly 9mpg I had one doing Autobahn
driving (up to 65) with some inner city driving, or even worse, 6mpg
when only running on 5cylinders. All in all, the fun is there, so I
enjoy it. Sure, prices for accessories are way less in the US sometimes
(like the A/C), othertimes the prices in Europe are comparable.

Thanks for all the notes in this thread. Helps a lot.

Peer,

I have been meaning to ask you how you decided it was 12 Beaufort.

I have been in 12 storms twice in my life and hope to never repeat the experience.
