I seldom take pictures with my cell phone and when I move them to my PC to email them somewhere they are always too large. The last time I did some I screwed around for 45 minutes to down size 4 pictures and never got the last one done correctly.

I took several pictures today at the airport Chilifest. About 120 people attended and now I need to down size them on my windows 7 PC to send send them to someone.

Ken, I usually just email them to myself then open the email device I want to use them on. If needed it resizes automatically.

Ken,

I run Microsoft Picture Manager, it has a rudimentary photo editor and can compress photos, try downloading and installing it as
per:

Ken you can send them directly from your cell phone. Go to the photo n at the bottom will be a box with an arrow (or similar) for u to forward the photo by text email or other. If u want more than one photo just tap the ones you want before sending. Hope this helps.

Sent from my iPhone

Faststone photo resize. Free program, simple to use, can convert many files at once.

I use Desqueeze on my iPhone, and reduce them before emailing or posting.
It lets me set the final resolution for a batch of photos, and puts the
reducedphotos in a separate folder.

Ken,

For many years I've used the free program Xnview to as my file manager,
photo viewer, and editor. It has 'most any feature could want, including
batch operations such as rename and resize. Most of those features are
also available "one-off". It's a great program which has a permanent home
on my task bar.

Find the photo using the usual Explorer-like file pyramid, select it, do
Shift-S, then select a standard size from the pop-up (or enter custom
dimensions, ratios, etc). Or select one of the icons to crop, rotate, etc.

Thanks everyone. Lots of good ideas. I'll look at all of them. The cell phone direct does not work on my service. That is why I have to send them to my PC first via USB.

Ken, I highly recommend Faststone photo resizer. You can select groups of photos, select sizes, and destination folders. Does one or many in just a few seconds. I love it.

I have a process where I put all photos on a subject in a directory with an appropriate name. The program allows me to create a subdirectory or put them wherever I want. I always create a subdirectory called 'small' under the main subject directory. That way the original file is in the main subject directory and the resized photos are in 'small' but with the SAME NAME. That way if I ever want to work on the photo or want a different sized version I know right where it is and what the name is.

W0rks for me!

Many years ago I used irfanview and xnview almost interchangeably. Then
something (which I don't recall) changed about irfanview to cause me to
give it up in favor of xnview.
