I have a BigBuddy knock off, double burner infra red propane heater that I thought was safe. I was cautious at first because a lot of the structure is screwed in to the plastic bodies. The other night I found My caution was not wasted.

I was working on the RV and the night became cold so I attempted to fire up the propane heater. BOth tanks had to be replaced but she had a problem firing up, the propane pilot was not at full force. Cleaning out the Pilot gas tube took care of that problem.

I tried to fire up the pilot and flame jumped from the pilot to the upper right corner of the heater. It was burning and I couldn't blow it out. I turned off the propane and then struggled to finally put out the burning plastic.

After taking it apart I found why the heater caught fire. The regulators move in and out to allow attachment of the 1 lb propane tanks. The seal is between the regulator and a fitting the the reg goes into. There is a sleeve type seal and an "O" ring. all of this is attached to the heater by the plastic construction. Somehow, the seal failed and I had propane leaking out, at low psi and when I tried to fire up the heater pilot, the gas carried the flame.

This is a real eye opener and has me concerned. I checked on you tube and there was another BIG BUDDY double heater that caught fire, suspiciously in the same area that mine caught fire.

I no longer feel this heater is safe to be run without anyone in the vacinity and certainly not to keep the RV warm when you are not in it. Those with pets, this is a real bad idea.

I recommend finding a better constructed heater for RV use.

This can happen to you...
