Someone still trying to make gas gauges reliable should try this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fuel-level-sender-capacitive-type-no-moving-cut-to-length-4-6-7-0-5-5V-output-/251723946013?hash=item3a9bea981d:g:JP0AAOSwsS1Z i3HG

With the appropriate gauge or a signal converter available, the most
difficult part should be the mechanical adaptation.

Ken H.

Cessna used that type for some of their airplanes. Being as they were for aviation, add a zero or two9 to the ebAy price.

Speed Hut sells these with their gauges at a 'fair' price. They also have a life time warranty and you can custom build them.
Just what I did.
